New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted Class 10 Science paper today, Saturday, March 2, 2024. The exam began at 10.30am and ended around 1.30pm. This year, a total of 39 lakh students from 26 countries are taking the examinations. In the national capital, the exams are being held at 877 centers, with 5.80 lakh students appearing.
Students taking the examination have been advised to arrive at the center at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the exam. They must not forget to carry their admit card as it is a crucial document. Candidates without admit cards will not be allowed to enter the examination hall.
Students must also bring their own stationery as borrowing in the examination hall is not permitted. Prohibited items should not be brought into the examination hall, as doing so may result in cancellation of the exam.
CBSE commenced conducting board exams for Classes 10 and 12 starting February 15. Class 12 exams will be held until April 2 while Class 10 exams will take place till March 13.

Overall The Science Paper Was Easier Than Previous Year, Says Bulandshahr Teacher
The science question paper was moderate in difficulty level, it had a mix of easy and moderate questions. On a good note, no questions were out of syllabus, says Bhumi V Gupta, PGT Chemistry, Vidyagyan School, Bulandshahr. "No competency based questions were asked and most of the questions were direct and easy. Marks were distributed uniformly keeping in mind knowledge, understanding and application etc. Overall the paper was easier than previous years. Most of the questions were directly taken from the NCERT book. The MCQs and diagram based questions in biology section and the numerical based questions in physics section were also directly taken from the NCERT book," she says.
Students Were Content With The Level Of Difficulty In Science Paper, Says Gurugram TeacherThe Class 10 Science board exam commenced with a well-balanced question paper of moderate difficulty, says Nisha Sharma, Science teacher, KIIT World School, Gurugram. "Overall, the question paper effectively evaluated students' application and analytical skills. Those who had practiced with CBSE sample papers, NCERT, and exemplar exercises found it beneficial. In summary, students were content with the level of difficulty in the question paper," adds Ms Nisha.
Science Paper Required Students To Think Critically, Says Ghaziabad TeacherThe CBSE Class 10 Science exam 2024 was designed to test students' understanding of the syllabus, says Bhavna Tandon, Academic Director, American EduGlobal School, Ghaziabad. "The exam structure comprised multiple-choice questions (MCQs), which delved deep into the syllabus. These questions went beyond surface-level understanding and required a thorough grasp of the concepts. The practical-based questions, on the other hand, aligned with real-world applications, challenging students to think critically and apply their scientific knowledge," explained Ms Bhavna.
Sharing further insights, Ms Tandon adds, "Short answer questions were relatively straightforward, allowing students to demonstrate their understanding of fundamental concepts. However, the long answer questions were more demanding and required students to analyze and synthesize information from different topics. "
Talking about one of the challenges of the exam, Ms Tandon said that the exam required efficient time management to ensure all questions were attempted within the allotted time frame.

CBSE Issues Clarification On Open Book ExamThe Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified its intentions to conduct a comprehensive study within its affiliated schools to assess the viability of implementing the OBE within the Indian educational framework.
The move aligns with the recommendations outlined in the National Curriculum Framework for Secondary Education (NCF-SE). Initially, the Board plans to experiment with the OBE approach and subsequently evaluate its feasibility within the Indian context.
Contrary to media reports, the CBSE has refuted claims about immediate plans to introduce the OBE in selected schools as part of a pilot run for specific subjects and grade levels. Instead, the Board is currently focused on initiating a study to ascertain the feasibility of the initiative.
In an interview with Education Times, Joseph Emmanuel, the Director of Academics at CBSE, said "Some media reports have created confusion; the CBSE has decided to undertake a study to understand the feasibility for bringing assessment reforms like the OBE based on recommendations in the NEP-2020 and NCF-SE 2023. The study would be conducted in select CBSE schools as it is important to first experiment, and then examine the viability of the OBE."
Mr Emmanuel further elaborated, "The CBSE has earlier introduced case-based questions in the board exam paper; students can answer the case-based questions only if they have a conceptual understanding."
Key Guidelines For Students- Students should abstain from spreading fake news regarding paper leaks or other matters.

How To Beat Exam Stress, CBSE Lists Do's And Don'tsCBSE had earlier listed certain do's and don't for students and parents to follow during the board exams. Recognising that examination time is one of very common situation when adolescents may find difficulty in coping with the stress, CBSE said following these strategies will help students to maximize their performance in the examination.
- Know your concentration span, Study with breaks.
- Students must work out best time for concentration.
- They must hold group study for difficult subjects.
- Students must not be discouraged by previous results. They must try to identify their weak areas from previous exams and work on them.
- Students must make time management plan for all subjects.
- They must repeat their learnt work so the recall in exam is easy. Work not repeated or revised is easily forgotten.
- Students must plan their revision time by drawing up a timetable. The timetable should also include activities such as playing, walking, watching TV that help in relaxation.
